Every abandoned place has two stories. The one that was lived, and the one left behind.

That morning Alex and I were excited to visit a jam house, in one of the downtowns of Brussels. The name of the place is a secret.

A woman of about sixty was waiting at the garden door, in a dress in shades of blue, holding a kind of catalogue. She said, in a soft but firm voice: Hi, this is Emma. I was expecting you. But I forgot to ask you on the phone — why are you here?

Even if the place is abandoned, nature never abandons. Not to protect it. To endure it. And what stays inside shines afterwards, like a pearl.

Alex, a man who collects time, walking into a house where time stopped. And freezing.

Can you hold the time?

We tasted them one by one, from the top of the shelf life to the bottom. No mould at all. The old methods were still holding the sugar inside.

Like a heartbeat, in the middle of the saloon, on top of the table.
